Wrinkles and fine lines
Wrinkles and fine lines are a normal part of aging and gradually appear on the skin over time. With age, cell renewal decreases; the skin becomes thinner, dehydrated and inevitably loses its collagen and elasticity. First, fine lines appear with grooves in the skin between 0.2 to 1 millimeters, then the wrinkles, which are 1 millimeter in depth. Although fine lines are more superficial compared to wrinkles, fine lines are more frequent.
Everyone’s skin ages differently and some may show signs of aging as early as in their twenties. Wrinkles and fine lines are sometimes caused by genetics. Eventually, everyone ages!
However, certain factors are known to cause premature aging :
- sun exposure
- alcohol consumption and tobacco use
- significant weight loss
- sedentary lifestyle
- unbalanced diet
- lack of sleep or disturbed sleep
- contracting facial muscles
Expression wrinkles (or dynamic wrinkles) are caused by repeatedly contracting facial muscles. As for aging wrinkles (or static wrinkles), they are due to the general relaxation of skin tissues. During the consultation, your doctor will suggest the best treatment according to the nature of your wrinkles.
