A change in color around the eyes is usually linked to dark circles. The skin around the eye darkens and this change in color is often accompanied by the presence of a hollow rim around the eye. Two types of dark circles are likely to form :
- The hollow rings around the eyes are caused by the loss of volume. Although they may be associated to the normal aging process of the skin—revealing themselves over the years, and then increasing with time—rings can also be genetic and they may appear very early on, around teenage years. In order to provide an effective treatment, it is important to differentiate between the hollow ring (located near the eye) and the prolongation of the hollow ring, meaning, the “tear trough”, which is the wrinkle that digs into the center of the cheekbone. The tear trough is located a little lower and appears with age.
- The dark deep circles affect the area around the eyes. They are usually caused by a clogging of the lymphatic or venous capillaries, which are blue and visible, because the skin in this area is particularly thin and transparent. Stress, lack of sleep, the consumption of alcohol and tobacco use increases these effects.
By adding volume with the fillers (which is hyaluronic acid based), it is possible to eliminate both the hollow ring and tear trough, and improve one’s overall appearance. During the consultation, your doctor will advise you on the appropriate treatment according to the origin of the rings around your eyes.
