Dysport

Dysport

To help smooth the appearance of medium to severe wrinkles, Dysport® is injected into the muscles of the face, and this, in very small amounts. Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport® contain a slightly different chemical variation of botulinum toxin, a protein produced by the clostridium botulinum bacteria. These drugs work in the same manner, meaning by temporarily blocking the nerve signals to the muscles to provide a relaxing effect. Dysport® is used in the treatment of glabella lines (its principal function), but also, horizontal forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, wrinkle of the nose and the vertical lip lines.

has long been known in the world of aesthetics. Designed to provide a natural appearance, its effects begin to manifest as little as 24 hours after the injection in some patients. Dysport® treats wrinkles by reducing the activity of the targeted muscles. Repeated movements and the contraction of the muscles are the main reasons for wrinkles, which means that they can start to develop even at a young age.

With one treatment, which usually lasts between 10 and 20 minutes, the appearance of your wrinkles will improve for a period of 3 months. However, after receiving several injections, the effects last longer. Since there is no recovery period, you will be able to return to your daily activities the day of your treatment!

What do we treat?

Process of the treatment

  1. Assessment
The choice of treatment, cost, frequency, effect, products to use in your daily routine and follow-up treatments are some of the things your doctor will discuss with you during the consultation. Your doctor will also inquire about your health status. According to the doctor’s observations, you may receive your first treatment on the day of your assessment, or your doctor will suggest a later date.
  2. Photographs
The photos not only serve as a comparison tool of the before/after evolution of your wrinkle treatment, they also allow you and the doctor to visualize the areas to be treated.
  3. Procedure plan
The doctor will ask you to perform certain facial expressions to assess the strength of your muscles. Using a white pencil, the doctor will determine the injection points according to his assessment in order to obtain the most natural result.
  4. Dysport® injections
Dysport® is injected into the skin using fine needles. This treatment is practically painless, with no required recovery period… and only takes a few minutes!

Q:

What is the difference between Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport®?

A:

Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport® are both made from botulinum toxin of type A. All botulinum toxins work in the same manner, meaning by blocking the release of acetylcholine and preventing the contraction of the muscles. However, the doses used in Botox Cosmetic® and Dysport® differ and cannot be compared. Dysport® works slightly faster and freezes less.

Q:

What are the side effects of the neuromodulators?

A:

Although very rare, some of the side effects are irritation of the nose and throat, headache, upper respiratory infection, swelling or sagging eyelids or eyebrows, inflammation of the sinuses, and nausea. These side effects are always temporary, and in some cases, there are ways to correct the ptosis (descent) of the eyebrow or of the eyelid.
