Botox Cosmetic

Botox CosmétiqueMD

Botox Cosmetic® is a purified inactive protein – derived from botulinum toxin A – used in very small doses. It is used in aesthetic medicine in order to block the nerve impulses. This intervention has the effect of “relaxing” the targeted muscle group and momentarily preventing the formation of medium to severe wrinkles, including expression lines such as glabella lines (its principal function), but also, horizontal forehead wrinkles, crow’s feet, wrinkles of the nose and vertical lip lines.

Approved in 2001 by Health Canada, Botox Cosmetic® is probably the best-known neuromodulator on the market. It is injected into the target area, in specific points of the
forehead, the eyebrow fold, the orbicularis muscle of the eye or the mouth and nose. The benefits are gradually felt approximately one week following the injection and last for 3 to 6 months, depending on the areas treated and the injected dosage.

The effects of Botox Cosmetic® are cumulative; the more we treat the targeted muscles, the less they contract and the more wrinkles fade. The treatment frequency thus decreases with time, as long as you maintain care on a regular basis. Our experienced doctors respect the physiognomy of the face and establish the ideal dosage for the most natural-  non-frozen – results.

What do we treat?

Process of the treatment

  1. Assessment
During the consultation, your doctor will be able to answer all of your questions and advise you on a choice of treatment, and discuss cost, frequency, effects of the treatment, products to use in your daily routine and follow-up treatments. Your doctor will inquire about your health status. According to the doctor’s observations, it is possible to receive your first treatment on the day of your assessment, or at a later date as will be suggested by the doctor.
  2. Photographs
The photos not only serve as a comparison tool of the before/after evolution of your wrinkle treatment, they also allow you and the doctor to visualize the areas to be treated.
  3. Procedure plan
The doctor will ask you to perform certain facial expressions to assess the strength of your muscles. Using a white pencil, the doctor will mark the affected area the injection points according to his assessment in order to obtain the most natural result.
  4. Botox Cosmetic® injections
Botox Cosmetic® is injected using fine needles. This procedure only takes a few minutes, without pain or a recovery period.

F.A.Q

Q:

A:

The results will last between 3 and 6 months. We recommend that the first three Botox Cosmetic® treatments be done every 3 months, and we will then re-evaluate the required frequency. Generally, the treatment frequency decreases with each intervention.

Q:

Are neuromodulators safe?

A:

Yes! Neuromodulators such as Botox Cosmetic® have been used for approximately 20 years and are approved by Health Canada. Rarely, small bruises may appear where the skin was injected, but they disappear quickly.

Q:

Will my wrinkles increase once the effects of the neuromodulators begin to fade?

A:

No! Your wrinkles will never be worse than they were before starting the treatment. If you stop the injections, your wrinkles will gradually reappear, but they will generally look better than they did prior to your treatment.
