Laser BBL (BroadBand Light)

Sciton’s® BroadBand Light (BBL)™ treatment is the most efficient IPL device for patients affected by pigment spots and vascular lesions on the skin of the face, the neck, the neckline and the hands. Activated by the energy of the intense pulsed light (IPL), the BBL™ technology corrects pigmentation issues linked to sun exposure and to aging (brown spots, freckles and age spots) and alleviates diffused redness caused by rosacea, acne, angioma and telangiectasia (spider veins).

Photothermal energy produced by the light of the BBL™ device gently heats the upper layers of the skin, and allows:

  • to reduce excess melanin, which causes hyperpigmentation, by causing the epidermis and dermis to weaken the appearance of pigment lesions;
  • to reduce the dilated capillaries responsible for facial redness, especially on the cheeks, nose and forehead, and the vascular lesions;
  • to treat acne, by targeting the bacteria itself ( acnès) and by reducing the inflammation;
  • to treat rosacea, erythema, papular lesions and associated vascular lesions;
  • to soften the fine wrinkles and to improve the skin texture.

Interchangeable adapters can reach even the most delicate areas, such as the nostrils, which are often affected by rosacea and couperose. In addition, its uniform beam distributes energy through precise wavelengths on the treated area, and its integrated, thermo-electrically cooled sapphire crystal prevents the skin from feeling the heat. The BBL™ treatment regenerates the cells and stimulates the production of collagen providing you with a more radiant and youthful complexion.

Q:

Which areas of the skin may be treated and how much time is required?

A:

The entire face—including the cheeks, the forehead and the nose—the neck, the neckline and the hands may benefit from the BBL™ treatment. Each session lasts approximately 30 minutes. The BBL™ treatment can also be used as a base for other procedures offered by Sciton’s® JOULE™ platform.

Q:

Is the treatment painful and are there any side effects?

A:

Other than a very light heat sensation, this treatment provides a relaxing effect! Although you may expect some light redness on the area treated, there have been no reports of notable side effects. Your pigment spots will be more visible the first days and then peel naturally and disappear. Since the BBL™ treatment may be done all year round, be sure to protect your skin during and following treatments by applying an SPF 30 sunscreen before going outside.

Q:

How many treatments are required before I start to notice results?

A:

The benefits of the BBL™ are noticeable from the first session. During your first appointment with our specialist, we will recommend a certain number of treatments according to the condition of your skin and your expectations. On average, 4 to 5 treatments every 4 weeks are required for best results. As the sessions progress, patients see irregularities, fine blood vessels and signs of aging fade away. The skin is restored, and the complexion becomes brighter and more even.
