Those who have excess fat under the chin often feel discouraged, because even weight loss and exercise do not eliminate submental fullness. Belkyra is a microinjection treatment especially designed to melt fat in the area under the chin. Injected directly in the submental area, Belkyra helps to break down and absorb fat cells. By eliminating the fat, this technology (used in the United States since 2015 under the name Kybella®) defines and contours the chin and jaw line to improve the profile.
Fat cells are composed of an envelope and its contents (the fat). Several other treatments will reduce the size of the envelopes or empty them of the body fat, without, however, providing a permanent effect. Approved by Health Canada, Belkyra is an injectable solution composed of deoxycolic acid, a molecule naturally secreted in the body. Belkyra destroys fat, which considerably reduces body fat permanently. Depending on each patient’s objectives, 2 to 6 treatments are suggested. The effects of Belkyra become visible over time, refining the lower part of the face.
Process of the treatment
- The assessment
- During your assessment appointment, your doctor will answer all of your questions and provide you with information regarding the treatment, such as cost, frequency of treatments, effects, products to use in your beauty routine as well as information about your follow-up appointments. Your doctor will also inquire about your health and will determine if it is possible for you to receive your first treatment on the day of the assessment; otherwise, a later date will be suggested.
- The photos serve as a comparison tool before, during and after your treatments, allowing you and your doctor to visualize the area to be treated.
- Procedure plan
- Using a white make-up pencil, the doctor will determine the injection areas according to his/her observations. Before each treatment, he/she will evaluate the patient’s submental area to make sure that the amount of fat under the chin is sufficient.
- Belkyra injections
- Belkyra is injected by using thin needles in the subcutaneous fat layer of the chin. This procedure takes approximately 30 minutes, without requiring a recovery period.
